What should I check first when viewing a used excavator?

Start with the machine history, serial number, hour meter, cold-start behaviour, and visible leaks. Then test the hydraulics and inspect the undercarriage before discussing the final price.

How can I identify excavator hydraulic wear?

Look for scored cylinder rods, wet seals, damaged hoses, slow or jerky movements, abnormal pump noise, and hydraulic drift while an attachment is held in position. A qualified technician should confirm the cause before purchase.

Is a high-hour excavator always a bad investment?

No. Working hours should be assessed together with service records, operating conditions, component replacements, and current test results. A well-maintained high-hour machine can be safer to buy than a low-hour machine with incomplete records.
